ABW larvae feeding window is open — Tetrino now, Ference AI / MatchPoint / Provaunt soon
We're past the Envu-recommended May 15 timing for Tetrino — if you haven't applied yet, get it out now. Tetrino has a broader control range and is outstanding when timed right. If that window has passed, Ference AI (cyantraniliprole) and MatchPoint (spinosad) are excellent for early instars — control before any damage is seen. Not spraying for another week to 10 days? Provaunt (indoxacarb) is very effective on mid-to-late instars. All four products are outstanding and will keep your turf healthy and thriving.

Your phenological trigger: Rhododendron catawbiense at full bloom. Check WeevilTrak Plus for GDD-based timing at your course.

Grub prevention: adults are flying — don't miss the window
Japanese beetle, Asiatic garden beetle, and masked chafer adults are emerging soon. Imidacloprid and chlorantraniliprole need soil time before egg hatch. Act before June 30 with Acelepryn and before August 1 with Imidacloprid. For the latest updates and timing guidance, visit jimfavreau.com.

Summer N strategy: feed the turf without pushing it
High-N flushes under heat stress invite disease and scalp injury. This is exactly where Harrells' own Polyon® controlled-release fertilizer shines. Polyon's patented polymer coating meters nutrients via temperature-activated diffusion — slow, steady, predictable. Fewer applications, reduced disease pressure, and less environmental impact.

Ask me about the Polygraph® tool — we can map your expected results before a single granule hits the turf, accounting for your local temps, desired release rate, turf type, and region. Polyon is 100% guaranteed by Harrell's to last the promised weeks of greening.

Crabgrass: it's not too late — here's your plan
Pre-emergent crabgrass control, when applied correctly, remains highly effective through the end of August. Dimension offers both pre-emergent and early post-emergent control — many turf managers have applied it through the first week of June with excellent results. For extra insurance on your hot spots, tank-mix Harrell's ProtectMax Quinclorac. And don't forget: methylated seed oil (MSO) is essential with Quinclorac — it's the key to getting the best control.

Dollar spot: act early and stay ahead — UMass Extension update
Cool, humid weather and extended leaf wetness have created prime dollar spot conditions across New England — affecting golf courses, sports turf, and lawn care accounts alike. UMass Extension recommends preventive apps when daytime temps are consistently 60–80°F. Rotate FRAC groups, maintain 14–21 day intervals, and don't cut rates in tank mixes. Premixes like Encartis, Posterity XT, and Navicon are performing well. Seeing reduced efficacy? Call Jim — resistance testing is available through the UMass Turf Pathology Lab.
